" ... hearings, but Mr. Vincent feels this is not early enough. "By the time public hearings are held, it seems to us that the engineers, local officials, and key members of Congress are largetly committed, and most of the decisions have already been made." "Fog patches continued to plague us that night, but shortly before dawn a chilly "blue norther" whistled in, ... " ~ Nat'l Geographic,

you can stand this day stand before her all of you you can stand this day before all trials and tribulations before the elders, & officials before the children & young women my baby cares for you even when she cares for me you can stand this day outside the store you're the stranger you can stand this day when your delight has been forsaken my baby cares for you even when she cares for me my baby cares for you when she doesn't care for me

I knew what you want before you find something let me tell you what it means knocking off airs / tables and chairs / wasn't it a dream? not on your life / I'm not your wife / get off my leg and plead you act so tough / all man-sized and stuff / you lie like a disease I know you want / to figure it out / to live a lifetime of ease he did love your family what garment did I wear? whose arm did he adorn? My life has been fair funny how memory clouds the passage of time putting on airs / people and stares / wasn't it a dream? Not on your life / i'm not your wife /get on all fours and scream you act so wise / jewelry and ties/ you lick like a disease I know you want / to figure it out / to live a lifetime of ease you were nobody's mother to me something sounded like geese somewhere west of the magins got me thinking the affinity of your friends is no sin to judge and no matter what I say I love you

no need to be forgiven forgive me when i'm gone don't need to be forgiven you'll forget me when i die much better to be forgotten then to adopt a lie gather you children around me say, why you can't see eye to eye? much better to be forgiving than to adopt a lie. son, why'd you not buy your brother a casket made of stone? oh, death'll lock down another and you'll find yourself alone gather your witness around you a pound of her flesh for a pound of your bone oh, death'll lock down your brother your casket will leave her alone. oh, darling, don't put out the candle this here darkness is cold your love, my brother mishandled, your love and my love has grown old what's this you gather around you: a treasure lost, and a treasure sold? your love to my brother's a candle, your love and my love has grown old. you say you don't need to forgive me you'll forget me when i'm gone you'll not forget what you give me nor upset this earth i'm standing on gather your assets around you another's labour, another's song you'll not forget to forgive me nor upset this earth i'm standing on

in the silent pictures you'd live a celebrated life in the silent pictures you'd make love to your wife and when they find you laughing at yourself in the camera's eye alone when you've had your methadone who's that beside you singing in the rain when yoiu've been tied to the tracks of an oncoming train and who has left you that way? in the silent pictures and you cleave your body to the ground for the time being alone in the silent pictures is it you or the world that has no sound? and the silence is a drone and no one listens anymore ...

i would say the day is done it would be nice to meet you if just to say i'm sorry for what they'll put you through and i don't need to bring it up but in a way you made it harder on yourself when everything that you do doesn't even come through and they're laughing at you to your face quiet is the next best thing you'r gonna need to listen to what he says in the morning a victim of clonipin i'm not sayin' this is what you need but in a way you make it harder on everyone when you can't see what you do and it's not about you and it's not about me you've got your sights on winning some big race (you're not winning a race youre not running you're late again razorblades razorblades you're leaving behind razorblades you're leaving behind you're not running the right rate you're not running you're lame razorblades razorblades you're bleeding your mind razorblades razorblades you're letting your mind elate you're gonna need a pair of jeans before you hit the airport to get back on the road you can't wait around for long thought this wasn't in the rule book don't need to be indifferent or harder on yourself or harder on anyone it's in the past what's been done you're moving out beyond golden gate

the songs on songs for lauren are named after a blue guitar my cousin zach gave to me. they tell a story inspired by woody guthrie's journey to washington state to write commissioned songs for a federal dam project. elmer bueler was the name of the man who drove the car. there is roughly a story of the emotional life of a man so far away from wife and family that he invests all his time in his work while excited by the prospect of returning home.

the lyrics for elmer bueler reminiscences are wordbanked from an old national geographic magazine about the columbia river valley dam project
the intro to "the suffer jets" references in the pines by heddie ledbetter
silent pictures references the silent film perils of pauline
the intro to lauren's song incorporates samples of bird calls from folkways records' north american bird call field recordings

the lyrics of thy night are adapted from the poem lovesong by iranian poet farough farrokhzad, the music is adapted from i ain't got a home by woody guthrie
